Frog or Not to Frog, That is the Question

I have been working on this baby blanket for my soon to be arriving bundle of joy.  Which by the way is coming way too fast.  We moved this past weekend and now have a room specifically for baby and … Continue reading

Green Linen

linen10dOh boy has there been things going on in our crazy life, we have some changes coming and they will more than likely be covered here at some point.  But today it is all about the knitting.  Last weekend I was at a huge craft show and did well thanks to the cold wind, people where cold and hadn’t brought hats.  Oh darn, here let me sell you one.  There was a down side the crazy wind would pick up every once in while and broke the borrowed canopy that I was using.  I just want to make a note that it was already broken and just broke a little more while in my custody.

linen10aToday I am taking a break from knitting for others, I sent off three orders this week, and worked on my green linen scarf.  It is based on the Cerus Scarf pattern found on Ravelry.  I added many more stitches because I like my scarves super long, I wrap and wrap and still like it to hang.I actually don’t remember off hand how many I added but wait let me check…401 so I added about 50 extra stitches. I do believe that I might have lost my mind and will be working on this scarf for awhile because not only is it 400 stitches but it is 400 in fingering weight. I did remember to grab two skeins, I never remember to get enough.

linen10cI am using Knit Pick’s Hawthorne Fingering and really do love all the colors that they have to choose from.  I narrowed it down to “Forest Park” and when it arrived I loved it.  I started the scarf while I was in Washington State for my dad’s retirement party from the National Park service.  He has worn the color of the yarn almost every day for the past 30+ years.  He had a good laugh when I offered to make it for him, he has sworn that he will never wear gray and green again.

linen10bIt is slow going with all the slip stitches in the linen pattern, I haven’t had the chance to work on it for a month or so and only finished about half an inch.  I worked on it for a couple hours today and have passed the inch mark, it is the small mile stone that get celebrated around here.  I will continue to work on it this weekend while at a civil war reenactment/living history event.  The circular needles are not period correct but eh, I’m not switching to long strait needles just for the weekend.  I don’t even want to think about how many stitches I would drop.  I’ll let you know how far I get, I’m shooting for 2 inches.

Sock Machine, Socks in Two Hours?

I would like to introduce you all to my antique circular sock machine.  This one is from the turn of the century I purchased the refurbished machine 4 or 5 years ago from a lady in Hanover, Pa. after watching … Continue reading
